Meet Katherine Boltz
Director
I began my dance education at the age of seven with the Loudoun School of Ballet in Leesburg, VA where I studied Ballet and Irish Step dancing. At the age of ten I joined the Celtic Rhythm School of Dance and began performing in their Company. While with the company I had the opportunity to choreograph my own solos as well as group pieces, and participate in master classes with Colin Dunn, Jean Butler and Riverdance. I began competing in 2002 under the O’Neil- James School of Irish Dance, and ultimately advanced to the championship level prior to departing for college. In 2009 I began competing with the Muggivan School of Irish Dance under Joni Muggivan. While at the Muggivan School of Irish Dance, I had the opportunity to compete at the Southern Regional Oireachtas as well as abroad in the European Championships.
I attended Sweet Briar College and in December 2011 I graduated with a BA in Dance. There, I had the opportunity to choreograph my own works as well as direct a two-night performance. I studied modern dance with Clay Taliaferro (Jose Limon Dance Company), Mark and Ella Magruder ( Mimi Garrard Dance Company) and ballet with the late Petrus Bosman (Royal Ballet of London). While at Sweet Briar College I performed in numerous faculty, student, and guest artist works. Sweet Briar also gave me the opportunity to teach in the community after-school dance program, where I taught Irish Step to students ages eight through fifteen. In the spring of my Junior year, I studied abroad in Ireland at the University of Limerick. While at UL I took classes in Irish history, folklore, music and Irish dance. This experience has influenced my and dance and my choreography.
After graduating in December of 2011, I began training with Joni Muggivan in both dancing and teaching. In August of 2017 I began The Celtic Rose Dance Academy, an Irish dance school bringing the excellence and tradition of Irish step to Loudoun County.
